    shift knob

The shift knob on my 87 535is is pretty well worn out. I'd like to replace it. How do you get the knob off the shaft? I doesn't seem to have any set screws or other fastener holding it on. I have tried to unscrew it but I am afraid to put too much tension on it if there is some trick to its removal. Thanks in advance.

The basic plastic one (25111220823) lists for $15.10 at the dealer. The leather one (25111221284) lists for $44.25. Both will need to have an emblem inserted and they run around $8. Of course the dealer will likely mark it up but if you belong to the BMWCCA many will knock off 10% or more.

ah, just gave my last one to a buddy, was a MOMO

i like the MOMO knobs since they have the adjustment screw on the side to clamp them down. I dont know how many times i ripped the knobs off and end up accidentally throwing it at the back window during powershifting, i nearly ripped mine off at the dragstrip last week even when overtightened.
Im using a modified B&M shifter with a momo shorty knob for maximum shift reduction.
I dont have any other good knobs but new MOMO's are cheap new, even the leather ones.
