87' 528e not starting when hot.

My 87 528e will not start when hot. cool it off for about an hour and it will start. Have fuel but no spark when it is hot. Where is the first place to start. I have the Bentley manual.

Does it crank or nothing at all?

My L7 had a problem yesterday. Didnt crank in the garage (overnight cold). Tried again and it started. Then 12 minutes later in a store parking lot. Pulled the main relay and lightly tapped it...put it back in and it started.
I also suspect my ignition switch is failing (271k on the odometer)
If crank-no start, have you tested the reference sensor(960 ohms +/- 60)?
Check fuel pump fuse to relay and the pump relay (swapperoonie).1985 528e (10/84)

thanks for the idea on the reference sensors. the gray plug from the harness to the sensor was not fully plugged in. MY FAULT. must have been plugged in just enough to make contact when cold. As soon as it got hot it expanded just enough to lose contact.
