e28 reving and possible electrical problem?

I have an 83 e28 and the gages haven't worked the whole time I've owned it. Well 2 months ago it started reving by itself all the time and smoking. So we tore the engine apart cleaned it and changed all the rings, gaskets, and spark plugs. Since then the more I'd drive it, it would start to rev again. Also, the more I drove it, it would die. Some how the battery is getting drained and it's new. My car is getting gas fine and the alternator is fine. Does it sound like the instrument cluster or motronic system. Thanks, any info would be helpful.

Locate the battery drain. Hook your ammeter

between the positive cable end and the + on the battery to determine the amount of drain. Should be less that 50ma. Start pulling fuses until you find the circuit causing the drain. Is the Motronic temp sensor OK? There are ETM (wiring diagrams) on e38.org/e28 site.
