I hit 1000 miles on the odometer yesterday

Since no one else is posting here, I just wanted to let everyone know that I have put over 1000 miles on my 135i in just over one month. As I said before, I am driving it very easy per BMW Owner's manual's break-in recommendation. Stepped on it just a little yesterday while pulling out of the driveway of a shopping center, to get out of the way of traffic. It felt great and was faaaaaasst. I have been averaging 19.2 mpg with 80 percent city driving. I think that is pretty good for a 300 hp small but heavy little coupe.

Motortrend.com has a couple short videos of the 135i tested against a EVO. It did 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, that's with a automatic trans which is what I have.

    19.2 mpg?

I realize you said 80% city traffic which I equate to most likely a lot of stop and go, but I've read 335i owners report much better gas mileage than that in 50/50 hwy/city driving during the break-in period. Certainly, they could be sharing misleading numbers and yes, your 80% city driving is more than 50%, but it still makes me wonder how much better it'll really get after break-in and when the car sees more hwy miles.

I'm back and forth between the 335i and the 135i, so I'd be real interested to hear how the mpg improves after break-in and when you are more in the 50/50 hwy/city area. I really like the 135i, but since the power is somewhat lost on me since it won't be seeing a track, at least for some time, this might tilt me more in favor of the 335i which offers more room overall, especially where carrying four people is concerned.

    Re: 19.2 mpg?

My 20 percent on the highway has been stop and go too, but just at a higher speed. I will be visiting my friend tomorrow. Will be on the freeway for about 30 miles. I will check my mileage. If you're concern about backseat space, than I would get a 335i.

    New numbers

This afternoon, I reset my MPG when I got on the freeway. I drove 30 miles, at speeds between 75-80. When I got off the freeway, I had averaged 29.4 mpg. I drove another 5 miles to my friends house. My mileage had dropped to 24. I drove home at about 70 mph. My mpg was at 31.3.

I think the 335i's might be getting better mileage on the freeway because it has better drag coefficient. Per bmwusa.com, the 335 is 0.30 and the 135i is 0.33. I guess the 200 pounds difference is not overcoming the increased in drag coefficient of the 135i.

Have you checked the computer's accuracy yet?

The mpg errors on mine (Z3, E46, Z4) have ranged from about 2%to 9% high - although the mph seems pretty accurate.

Re: I hit 2000 miles on the odometer

Over the weekend. I love this 135 coupe. I got mine in at Beverly Hills BMW while I was out in Socal for business on 3/29/2008. I was able to break mine in 7 days while I was out there. Had to drive to San Diego and L.A. area. and then back to San Francisco. So far I have taken it up Stinson Beach and Hwy 1 on curvy roads and this thing handles great!!

I'd have to say this is a great little daily driver car for me and I use my 650 cabrio strictly weekends only. Both have super personality and very capable vehicles. Here are pics of my favorite toys:

    Re: New numbers

That's in line with what my son is getting in his 335ci.
He drives about 60% freeway and gets around 25mpg. He did a 250 mile highway trip (with a couple of climbs over passes, and a couple of blasts on some twisties) and got 28.4mpg.
