    Another e31 owner considering a 645ci cabrio!

Hello...looking to find a low miles (under 25k) 645ci cabrio. It appears that the 2004 cars are more in my price range. Is this a year to avoid or did BMW work with customers to address any issues. I did find some archives, but these were more about the 2005+ cars.

Any years or production months that I need to avoid. Considering that we are mid way through 2008, I am thinking most cars will be near out of factory warrenty.

If a 2004 was my only option, what things should I look for in the pre purchase inspection especially since I am looking at the cabrio.

Any recalls or problems with the 2004 cars?

    I greatly appreciate any help!

    Thank you
    Waj

Darn e31s, no cabrio (well, only one or 2 that I know of)

Some things simply were not available in builds up to 4/04 such as bluetooth. The later builds are better. If you can, get an 07 or 08/04 build. Some cabrios (MY04 and MY05) had some top closing- opening issues related to switches or hydraulics. I do not think it was all that common and certinly not a recall. Better parts started around 08/05. No Heads up display (HUD) available until 12/04 builds. My rattle box friends all love theirs.

Cobradav is right on the money as he alway is. I have experienced the top problems and with his help these gremins have been resolved. The dealers have grown aware of the issues and and now know how to deal with it. In the end Dave is right, go after a later build and you will have most of the bugs worked out.
