    filter insert requisite?

i just changed my oil/filter and the filter that bmw gave me doesn't make room for the dispertion insert.. i guess they gave me the wrong filter?

anyway.. it would obviously be better to drive with the insert in there but i'm wondering what people's thoughts are driving without..

whats the - insert requisite? not sure what you

talking about ! the filter should look like this - http://www.mk-bmwe31.com/servlet/the-4/Wix-Oil-filter/Detail

OEM or aftermarket the look should not change.
the dealer must be really dumb to mix it, the same filter is used is many many different models.
I use WIX filters since I read into their technology papers. I'm impressed with their product enough to use them then I will be very confident to sell them.
Their diesel filter is tested to be 50% better then OEM Ford or GM filters.

Re: whats the - insert requisite? not sure what you

If you go to realoem.com and look at the lubrication system (under engine), you will see a part number 17 on older models (and 22 under newer, but not listed in the description) that is an insert modification that then required the user to purchase a different oil filter. Not sure why they did this, but I am sure most people have the filter you referenced. However, back in the late 90's, anytime I ordered an oil filter they always would ask WHICH version I needed (non-modified or modified).

    Just a bit of trivia.

you can always just pull up on the

black insert (it snaps on) and remove it to use the filter you got. When it's time for the next oil change, get the right filter and reinstall the tube.
