RPM in 6th gear at 80 mph?
Hi All,
This is my first post to these boards as I just bought a 2002 M5 a couple weeks ago. So far I love the car.
So my question to owners of the E39 M5 is what RPM does your engine run at in 6th gear at 80 mph? Mine is doing 2700 rpm. Does this sound high?
I also own a '99 540i sport, and at 80mph in 6th gear, it runs in the low 2000's.
TIA,

I also have both of these cars, same years. What colors do you have? The 540i has a 2.81:1 differential gear ratio whereas the M5 has a 3.15:1. This 12.5% difference translates into less speed for any given rpm and gear. It also means more getup and go for the M5. I do sort of miss the older gearing, which felt more like autobahn gearing.
