Re: What is breakaway torque on a LSD?
I can't seem to find anywhere what the breakaway torque should be for limited slip diffs. for either 25% or 40% lockup. Anyone know what the specs. are? TIA
I believe this is based on the maximum torque in stock form. If the stock horsepower at the wheels is around 100 ft/lbs (example), then the breakaway torque should be 25 ft/lbs for a 25%, and 40 ft/lbs for a 40%.
This is the explanation as I remember it from what I considered a reliable source...
The consequence of this is that people upgrading to more powerful engines are not really getting "25% slip" on their differential - in reality they are getting much less. A 75% lockup on a stock 2002 may have the equivalent breakaway torque to an E30 M3 40%
