E31 Education

I held 2 impromptu education sessions this weekend regarding the E31, the V12 to be specefic. I have a 93' 850Ci "tend" to waay to much according to my wife. Anyway, my neighbor who always insists that I'm going to rub the paint off finally came over to take a look at my car. And, when he discovered it had a V12 he nearly passed out! The exact same thing happened at the gas station Sunday as the guy at the next pump started asking questions about the 8 and discovered that there was a V12 under the hood. They both walked away in amazement.

I was driving and stopped in at a local auto museum. The parking lot was full of american muscle cars....hemis. and the such. It was 103 degrees and after driving the 82 mile windy road at 55 mph (NOT)there had to be a lot of heat under the hood....so I popped the hood to let the heat out and to check things over. The V-12 attracted so much attention that the muscle car guys were getting upset. People just seem to gravitate to the 850's slook lines and the V-12 powerplant.

Isn't that the truth! I think at most they expect a V8 under the hood but when you say V12...the look on their face is priceless. I once had someone ask if it was powered by a 6 cylinder and my reply was yes one side is, left or right take your pick.

I was at a car show a few years back...and all the cars had V8s and one guys asked what I thought and I told him that he had a nice car but too bad it didnt have enough cylinders!!! He said what the F***??

He got mad and asked me what had more cylinders than a V8 and I told him my car did!! He had to come and look and couldnt believe that there was a V-12 under the hood of such a small car....and a 6 speed attached to it!!!! I asked him if he wante to find out if his car was fast or not....all the while knowing that his muscle car would smoke the 850 in a heartbeat!! But the V-12 intimidated him and he didnt want any part of a german car kicking his butt!! Glad he didnt take me up on it!! I hate to lose!!

Been there done that, nearly identical scenario except it was a new Mustang GT at the signal. The 2 twentysumthins in the 'Stang casually commented with "nice car does it have a V8"...reply was nope. Then they asked if it's a V6 and I said no....it's a V12. Case closed no contest they wanted no part of the 850. But you're correct cause that 'Stang would have put a good whupping on me.
