Submitted by viewers of ESPN's 1st Take show, Favre + Gruden =

1. "Chucky Cheesehead"

2. "Favreandgruden" ("Favre-N-Gruden"?) - takeoff of a VW ad slogan.

Okay, I just can't let this sit here.

I'm ticked at Favre right now, but I can't stomach seeing a Bear fan denigrate him without at least adding a little objectivity. Sure, you swept us last year, but what was Favre's record against the Bears over the last 15 years?

And here's a question for you - what QB has thrown the most touchdowns in the HISTORY of Soldier Field? Must some old-time Bear, right? Or maybe Jim McMahon?

Nope. It's Brett Favre.

That's right, a guy that played there one game per year for 16 years has thrown more touchdowns than any QB who has played there, even as the home QB, in the history of the stadium.

I wouldn't get TOO excited about putting Favre down if I were a Bear fan! ;o)

The Tale Of Two Favres

He was the Dan Marino of QBs. He was the Ryan Leaf of QBs.

I'm ticked at Favre right now, but I can't stomach seeing a Bear fan denigrate him without at least adding a little objectivity.

Who here called him a "punk"?

Sure, you swept us last year,

Objective fact, Y/N?

but what was Favre's record against the Bears over the last 15 years?

I wasn't specifically discussing his entire career; but, like I said, over the many years of this storied rivalry, what's been a good thing for one team has been a bad thing for the other. Agree/disagree?

For much/most of his career he's been great for the Packers...Which means he's been bad news for Da Bearz. But this hasn't been the case all throughout his career. 2007 is a striking example of him actually being *good news* for Da Bearz...And the most recent evidence we have.

And here's a question for you - what QB has thrown the most touchdowns in the HISTORY of Soldier Field? Must some old-time Bear, right? Or maybe Jim McMahon?

Jim McMahon? The former Packer QB? Like Mike Tomczak? ;-)

Nope. It's Brett Favre.

Is this accurate? Or, another one of your contemporaneously fabricated opinions?

Well, ya know, it wouldn't be that big of a deal because, during Favre's consecutive starting streak, the Bearz have had something like 21-22 starting QBs - the most in the NFL during that period.

Like I said. What's good for one is bad for the other & vice-versa.

That's right, a guy that played there one game per year for 16 years has thrown more touchdowns than any QB who has played there, even as the home QB, in the history of the stadium.

Impressive for sure -- unless he further damages his image, I believe he's a 1st ballet HOF'er waiting to happen -- but, what's more important is, What have you done lately? He's naturally gotten older, as everyone does, and not as mentally into it as he used to be. I apologize for bringing this up but, ever since his father died [RIP], he seems to have become a different Favre. It might be a coincidence, or it might not be.

What is his record against the Bearz the past 5 years? Or the past 4 years. How long has he been jerking the Packers around, iDunno? IIRC, since 2004.

Okay, from 2004-2007, what are Favre's:

1. W-L record against the Bearz?

2. (Comp - Att, Yds)?

3. TDs & INTs?

4. QB rating? (optional)

I wouldn't get TOO excited about putting Favre down if I were a Bear fan! ;o)

Based upon his more relevant recent performance & behavior, my opinion as a Bearz fan would be:

Best case = Favre continues to play in Green Bay.
Next best = Favre goes to Minnesota, or Detroit for that matter, as his record in domes kinda blows.
Worst case = Favre is traded to Chicago. OMG! That could be ugly...But I have enough respect for Green Bay that they wouldn't be that mean. OTOH, the Bearz owners just might be stoopid enough to take him. :-P

Favre traded to Jets

TSN

Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - The Green Bay Packers reached an agreement to trade quarterback Brett Favre to the New York Jets late Wednesday night.

Though the Packers did not release terms of the trade, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said the Packers will acquire a draft choice as compensation. The paper also quoted an NFL source which revealed the draft choice may increase in value depending on how well Favre plays this season.

Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy and executive vice president and general manager Ted Thompson released a joint statement.

"Brett has had a long and storied career in Green Bay, and the Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything he accomplished on the field and for the impact he made in the state," the statement said. "It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible.

"We respect Brett's decision that he could no longer remain here as a Packer. But there were certain things we were not willing to do because they were not in the best interest of the team. We were not going to release him nor trade him to a team within the division. When Brett ultimately decided that he still wanted to play football, but not in Green Bay, we told him that we would work to find the best solution for all parties involved. We wish Brett and his family well."

Late Wednesday night, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum held a conference call and revealed details of the acquisition. He said the club had multiple discussions with Favre, going over all the concerns of bringing him into the Jets' fold. Favre will be going to a new city with a new system after 16 seasons in Green Bay.

"We got to a spot where we felt comfortable with things," Tannenbaum said. "We're excited that he's here."

Tannenbaum added that the Jets were "just kind of monitoring" the situation, but jumped when the opportunity presented itself.

"Really, we had a cursory monitoring situation going on. We just kind of put an oar in the water," Tannenbaum said.

Favre was reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Sunday after retiring in early March in a tear-filled press conference. He was added to the Packers' roster on Monday, but did not practice with the club. The Green Bay paper reported the 38-year-old left for his Mississippi home Wednesday afternoon.

Favre leaves Green Bay as the NFL's all-time leader in most major passing categories -- touchdowns (442), yards (61,655), completions (5,377) and attempts (8,758) -- and his 253-game starting streak remains intact. By playing 16 seasons in a Packers uniform (1992-2007), he matches Bart Starr (1956-71) for the longest tenure in team history among his 30 team records. Now he brings those startling credentials to the Jets.

"I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform. He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible product on the field," Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson said. "Mike Tannenbaum and his football administration staff did a great job of navigating this complex process."

Favre's arrival in New York will likely displace quarterback Chad Pennington, who has played with the Jets since 2000. In 69 career games with the club, he has completed 1,259 of 1,919 passes for 13,738 yards and 82 touchdowns.

"I have all the respect in the world for Chad as a person and a player," Tannenbaum said. "He gave his heart and soul to this organization for a long, long time."

Maybe I should type more slowly?

I pointed out two facts:
1) That Brett and the Packers have OWNED the Bears over the past 14 years. (20-8 since 1994, including 18-2 between 1994 and 2003)
2) That Brett holds the record for the most TDs thrown in Soldier Field's history.

For those unable or unwilling to try to "decipher" that, it is a reasoned dispute with the notion that Brett Favre has been unable to beat the Bears or that Bears fans should be upset with the fact that Favre is gone.

It's not the velocity, it's the dishonesty.

Perpetuating Cheesehead stereotypes, are we?

Well, ya know, one doesn't need to be that sophisticated to appreciate the apparent irony that, if Favre doesn't play any better in 2008 than he did against the Chicago Bears in 2007 (0-2), then the Bearz would be sad to see him leave Green Bay.

One really doesn't need to be very sophisticated to see that; just more than you.

Yet something triggered you into Delicate-Little-Flower mode. I suspect it might be that quant dynamic whereby, It's OK for me to criticise a family member, but it's not OK for anyone else.

Right? Brett Favre hurt your feelings, and now you have to lash out. "Brett Favre is a punk." [Sniff, sniff.]

pointed out two facts:
1) That Brett and the Packers have OWNED the Bears over the past 14 years. (20-8 since 1994, including 18-2 between 1994 and 2003)

No, you DID NOT point that out! Why would you post such a blatant untruth?! Pretty cheesey, to say the least. Even if you did say that, which you didn't, please give a reasoned explanation for why Favre's more recent record against the Bearz, 2004-2007, is somehow unimportant. My argument is that his most recent performance is a better barometer of what his 2008 performance might be. Unless, of course, he can turn-back-the-clock 5-10 years, when he performed like a HOF'er. He hasn't lately.

Below are links to all of your replies, including what you actually did say.

2) That Brett holds the record for the most TDs thrown in Soldier Field's history.

At least you're being truthful here, that you did say this.

I said, since the Bearz swept the Packers in 2007, I'm sad to see Favre go. And your best (only!) comeback is career TDs @ Soldier Field.

Who cares, Lightweight?

How many of those did he throw during the 2007 game @ Soldier Field?

2007!

If you still believe that you have a honest and legit dispute, then stick with that year...That was the only season I specifically referred to, in my initial posting, PRIOR to your fabricated 'dispute'.

For those unable or unwilling to try to "decipher" that, it is a reasoned dispute with the notion that Brett Favre has been unable to beat the Bears or that Bears fans should be upset with the fact that Favre is gone.

Would you care for some milquetoast to go with your cheese?

Looking back at your initial post

You now claim that your initial post dealt only with 2007. Go back and take a closer look. Do you really mean to suggest that Favre set the interception record by throwing all of those interceptions in one year? I don't think so. No, you were talking about MORE than just 2007. Was your "he's been jerking the Packers around for several years now" comment intended to only refer to 2007? Certainly doesn't sound like it, using "several years" and all. When you said "throughout the storied rivaly" were you talking only about the 2007 games as comprising a "storied rivalry?" I would venture to say no - you were talking about the history of the two teams playing each other over the course of MANY years.

No question, your initial post talked about more than 2007. And you pretty harshly lambasted Favre in that posting. I just pointed out that Favre hasn't exactly been a patsy for the Bears over the course of his career. You can try to dance around it now, but the posts don't lie. Unless you go back and edit your posts now to fit your version of events.
