...I really wanna Moog etherwave theremin, I've even put up 2 cpap machines for auction, no Źšhit=8^D Anywho, I found a website that is holding an etherwave theremin contest, winner to be announced Sept 10th. I've entered myself, the B&C, and my brother.

Didn't use ebay for those items...
...I used <a href="http://www.cpapauction.com/">Cpap Auction</a> to list those... An auction website specifically for Cpap, that is soooo screwball=8^) Anywho, the machines are both Remstars, one is a Plus the other is an Auto, both have humidifiers.<div><embed quality="high" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.frappr.com/ajax/yvmap.swf" flashvars="host=http://www.frappr.com/&origin=unknown&lo=1&mvid=137440812230" salign="l" align="middle" scale="noscale" width="600" height="400" ></embed><div style="width:400px;text-align:left;"><a href="http://visitor.frappr.com/?sig=visitor_map&src_mvid=137440812230&origin=unkn own" target=_blank><img src="http://frappr.com/i/gyo.gif" border=0/></a><a href="http://www.frappr.com/?a=constellation_map&mapid=137440661822&src=flash_ map&sig=visitor_map&src_mvid=137440812230&origin=u nknown&ct=seemore" target=_blank><img src="http://frappr.com/i/s.gif" border=0/></a><a href="http://www.frappr.com/?a=constellation_map&mapid=137440661822&src=flash_ map&sig=visitor_map&src_mvid=137440812230&origin=u nknown&ct=pendingpins" target=_blank><img src="http://frappr.com/dyn_map/137440661822/origin:unknown/p.gif" border=0/></a><a href="http://www.frappr.com/?a=feedback&type=vm" target=_blank><img src="http://frappr.com/i/h.gif" border=0/></a></div></div>

Remstar is what I use.... But the one I have
has the pump is held together with duct tape plus it is way to big compared to what they are putting out now.... I'm supposed to pick up a new one before I leave for the TFZMT....<font color=white>

Both of our auctions are listed under thall24...
...Terry's is the "Auto" model with the carry case and nasal pillow system. His mother's is the "Plus" model, sans carry case, has both gel face mask and nasal pillow system.

Did you see that documentary on Moog?
Very educational. I had a keyboard a long time ago (had it in a car that was hit and destroyed it) but I never knew a theremin existed until I saw that show.
I think it was on HBO or one of those channels.

Pic of both Cpaps w/accessories...
<img src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d49/SkinMechanic/Misc%20pix/Cpaps.jpg">
...If you're inclined to barter, I'll kill both auctions and give you everything, in exchange for a Moog Etherwave Theremin and Theremin Amplifier. Use one Cpap at home, and the other for travel, or auction off the extra Cpap, with your old machine and recoup most(if not all)of your money. The auctions last 14 days and I don't want to wait that long for musical gratification.

I watched the beginning...
...of the doc last week, had to leave for work, thought I had TiVoed the rest, and I didn't=8^( Robert Moog is a genius, directly responsible for ALL of the techno that I listen to, especially the "old school" synth like Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Devo, ect...

Now let me get this straight.... You're willing
risk heart problems etc... not to mention loss of sleep for all concerned so you can have some as seen in Playboy music apparatus? That is the machine I'm getting rid of... Looking for the newer compact one....<font color=white>

The afore-mentioned parties...
...insisted that I auction off the devices to raise money for the Playboy music apparatus, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. I'd rather put up with snoring, than howling gailforce winds.

I have a friend here in town
That has one. He brought it to a party about three years ago. He couldn't really do anything with it except make cool Forbidden Planet type sounds with it. I had no idea what it was or who made it. When I saw the Moog documentary, I had a whole new appreciation for the thing (I have worshipped him since monophonic, not, polyphonic, days).
My take on the thing, even after watching some of the videos you linked, is that it is hard to recreate the same note repeatedly in the "random" sequence necessary to stay in key and follow a melody. All the musicians I hear migrate from one key to another in their performances. I suppose, like a steel guitar, or even slide guitar to some extent, you can hit any note you want via glisando like a country singer, but I haven't seen anyone who can reproduce a specific note on demand. I probably haven't looked hard enough.
Even with a fretless string instrument, the musician learns exactly where "C" for instance is. With the Theramin, it seems that the position in space where "C lives" moves due to factors that are not controllable. I'm thinking maybe the proximity of your body or arms adds to the resistance or whatever it is that breaches the field and causes tonal changes.
I am certainly not knowledgeable in this area, just my observations.
I would gladly contact my friend to see if he still has it, what brand it is, and whether he is interested in parting with it. He recently got married, so it could be one of those things that needs to find a new home. Contact me through here or e-mail if you are interested.
I would love to hear your results,
Mike

Here's a video of Pamelia Kurstin...
...She has a signature "walking bass" that she does about 3 minutes into the "Autumn Leaves" number. If the embedded link doesn't work, <a href="http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/pamelia_kurstin_plays_the_theremin.html">click here</a>
<!--cut and paste--><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="432" height="285" id="VE_Player" align="middle"><param name="movie" value="http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/loader.swf"><PARAM NAME="FlashVars" VALUE="bgColor=FFFFFF&file=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/movies/PAMELIAKURSTIN-2002_high.flv&autoPlay=false&fullscreenURL=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/fullscreen.html&forcePlay=false&logo=&allowFullscr een=true"><param name="quality" value="high"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><param name="scale" value="noscale"><param name="wmode" value="window"><embed src="http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/loader.swf" FlashVars="bgColor=FFFFFF&file=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/movies/PAMELIAKURSTIN-2002_high.flv&autoPlay=false&fullscreenURL=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/fullscreen.html&forcePlay=false&logo=&allowFullscr een=true" quality="high" allowScriptAccess="always" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" scale="noscale" wmode="window" width="432" height="285" name="VE_Player" align="middle" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></object>
...Agreed, hitting the right note is very much dependent on the consistancy of the wave pattern emitted by the pitch antenna. Also muscle memory has a lot to do with it. Notice that when a Thereminist plays they have a blank stare during the recital, it's all about the muscle memory. When I start learning to play I am going to do it blindfolded, so I can concentrate entirely on muscle movement. I'm also juggling golf balls(think chinese exercise balls)in both hands to increase finger dexterity. I wish I new how to work with electronics, I'd love to try to build a vacuum tube Theremin, they have a richer, more dynamic sound than their transistorized counterparts. Anywho, feel free to contact your friend and get the skinny on his Theremin, I'm definitely interested=8^)

Jean Jacques Perrey anyone?
Skin Mechanic: Thank you for introducing me to the Theremin and Ms. Kurstin. I have been a fan of Jean Jacque Perrey's 'electronic' music since I was a young boy. While he plays the Jenny Ondioline and the Moog, along with his signature tape snippets blended into melodies, I can't help but think he too has had some experience with - or at least a degree of exposure to - the Theremin.
I love the video and Ms. Kurstin is a very appealing person with a tremendous amount of talent.
Thank you for sharing this video!!
Check out JJP's many albums starting with the In Sounds From Way Out!
Moog Sensations and Circus Of Life are excellent as well.

Don't forget Rick Wakeman...
...who was fond of the Minimog. I think Keith Emerson was more into the modular Moog systems, which might explain why his synthsis has a more blatant feel to it. Wondering out loud what King Crimson woulda sounded like if they had embraced the Moog sound. As much as I love the newer digital techno, it can't compare to the analog stuff.

JJP is very much alive!
His website is here: http://www.jeanjacquesperrey.com/
Check out his collaboration with Dana Countryman - The Happy Electropop Music Machine. And they have a new album coming out soon called Destination Space.
And I just bought tickets to see him live in New York City!!
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/39679
It has been a lifelong dream of mine to meet him and personally thank him for all the years of enjoyment and lighthearted spirit his music has brought into my life. No, drugs aren't an element in my life. I just love his sense of humor and his committment to making the world a better place through his music.
I wrote him once and I will treasure the email he sent back to me for a very long time. It was not a form letter, it was written from his heart.
Peace.
