    New dealer - service question

I just moved to a new state and of course that means a new relationship with a new BMW dealer. Made my first visit last week for a few minor maintenance items and overall I wasn't too impressed with there service.

    Here is my question:

I've got a 02 745Li with 46K miles on it. They recommended a 'throttle body cleaning' for $165. Car runs great and having no problems. What is this, and is it really needed or just one of those add-on, high commission type things? Unfortunately, I am not too mechanically-inclined so I don't know.

    TIA

    Jeff

I would doubt it as a problem. You have the intake

air filter box, on the right, then the MAF sensor (mass air flow) then a boot and then the throttle body. After that the big intake manifold housing under the engine acoustic cover. I have cleaned the MAFs on my 95 750iL once with CRC MAF sensor electronic cleaner but have not cleaned my throttles. (about 75,000 mi) I have not seen this subject on the 2 e65/66 boards I watch. See Link.
