radio shuts off
Please help 98 740il 65,000 miles the radio is shuting off after about 30 min. of driving time, also the dash turn indicator lights stop working, outside the indicators still work, this is driving me crazy, is dsp amp over heating??? if car is shut down and let sit for 1hr. everything works, ignition switch???? battery is one year old, also is there a way to lock the doors but keep the alarm system off, I have 745 87, 740il 98, both are great on highway, but the nickle and dime problems that bmw engineers don't work out, cruise control that stop working, radio the turn off, speakers that are junk, cup holders why even have,

I am guessing ign switch or alternator
I had the same turn signal symptoms in my 1998, and it was the battery. Your battery is relatively new, so I will assume it is good. Therefore, your problem could be the ignition switch.
The radio shut off could be related to the ignition switch as well. Or, it could also be the radio module itself. When the radio cuts out, will the CD changer work? If the CDC works, then the problem is the radio module. If both the CDC and radio do not work, then it is the DSP amp. However, I would get the turn signals working first, because that could be related to the same root cause.

The turn signal thing was intermittent
The turn signal thing was intermittent. I was not 100% sure of the cause, but it never happened again after I replaced the battery. (This was in my early days of understanding these cars.) Since then, I have read many instance of similar symptoms that were caused by ignition switch or battery.
Similarly, the battery or ignition switch are the culpret behind strange radio problems. That is why I suspect a common root cause. I would do the ignition switch. I did a proactive ignition switch replacement this weekend on my 2000 750iL. It was not misbehaving, but it is relatively inexpensive and very easy to replace.
