    sticky HVAC slider controls

I poked around posts & archives but didn't find anything similar...

Issue: 84 533i HVAC sliders are extremely hard to move. The slider knobs are broken off previously because they are so hard to move. I removed the control panel & I think its not the slider mechanism but rather either the cable or (what I'm presuming are) the flaps way back into the dash somewhere.

Anyone have a similar issue or solution? I haven't dug back into the dash yet to find the flaps - I'm a bit intimidated by that without having a good idea what's on the other end & that it could be the cause.

any insight would be helpful. thx

Sometimes when repairs are made in that area where the control panel needs to be removed or just pushed to the side the solid non strained cables bet bent up, causing the annoying hard to slide situation. When ever I am working with or around them I spring the clips and remove the cables from the sliders. Its a royal pain but its a must do.
