    M5 Rack & Pinion Conversion

Hi Guys.., have been working on an M5 Rack & Pinion Conversion and having a bit of trouble.., looking for info if anyone can help.

The e28 M5 is a rear steer setup and most BMW racks are designed for front steer cars, e30, e36, e39, etc... Anyone know of a model that is rear steer and uses a rack & pinion setup.

I've already looked at the 944 rack, as well as the e39.., both will not work.

    Any ideas ?

    Appreciate the help.

    Philo.

    Re: M5 Rack & Pinion Conversion ? ? ?

Why? This seems like a very dangerous idea to me. If you are trying to cure sloppy steering you need to replace the worn components and get everything back in spec. And by the way, the e28, e34 and e39 M5's all use recirculating ball steering. When the front end is correctly set up, the feel and response is every bit as good as a rack and pinion set up.

Actually the "old" steering box set up feels BETTER to me. BMW just needed the room.

    I know what will fit

VR6 has been done in an E-28. I have photographic evidence I can send to you.

I have come close to proceeding on several occasions.
