    No, accordingo to RealOEM.com

RealOEM.com lists a different water cooled part number for the V8 and V12 engines. The V8 water cooled alternator is shared with the E39 and E53 V8 engines. The V12 alternator is only listed for the 750iL.

I do not know of a proven reabuilder. One of the popular places to buy replacements is www.oem****************.

Max knows his stuff, but I would confirm with him

I would alert Max that the BMW parts catalog lists different part numbers for the V8 and V12 engines and ask if he knows the difference.

    Its called novastarparts.com

I m getting a rebuilt one this week
    for my 2002 540i.
Cost $166 plus $115 refundable core charge.
free shipping, but I have to pay $8 to ship core back from Boston to Philly where novastar is.

they said that they replace all the resistors, brushes, plus the rear bearing that will cause overheating.
Guy sounded like he knew why he was talking about.

I'll let you guys know what happened.

I just replaced my water cooled alternator with

one from NovaStar & it cured my blinking red battery light. Like alian mentioned, the NovaStar guys knew what they were talking about. The alternator looked brand new & came assembled with the large o-ring already installed ($33 from a BMW dealer if you had to buy one...). So far so good.
