It's not, here's the info...
Rates and residuals are out. 50% on 24mo and 45% on 36mo. That's for 15K/yr. Add 2% for 12K and 3% for 10K. Base rate is 0.0026, but there is a special rate for returning 7 series customers, 0.0009. So the rate is awesome, but the residuals stink.
In fairness, the residuals are more in line with what they should be. They were unrealistically generous before, and as a result BMW is taking a huge bath on lease turn ins. Returning customers should expect their payment to be at least $300 more per month, and much higher depending on how you equip the car (as the prices have gone up) and the terms and mileage of the lease. Even with the promotional rate, I'm looking at about a $400-600 increase from my current car depending on how much the dealer will discount the new car.
The higher payments and the drowning economy don't bode well for sales.

My numbers...
Now, granted, these weren't set in stone numbers (instead, just a rounded up estimate given in conversation with a buddy at the dealership), but I was quoted $2400 on a 24 month lease with no money down and 15K miles per year. If you use any of the available lease calculators online, it's right near that, so I don't think that's way off.
When I had my last 7, which was similarly equipped (loaded SWB Sport) to the '09 car that I spec'd, the same lease was just under $1400. I'm not sure how I feel about the '09 anyway (need to SEE one), but I can tell you that it's not worth an additional $1000/month to me, that's for sure.
That said, I would assume that the residuals will normalize a bit after a few months in production. The X6 5.0i (which I have been eyeing, too) went from a 49% residual LAST month (on a 24 month lease) to 62% this month. Craziness.<small>

Re: My numbers...
I haven't seen the new car either, so nothing is carved in stone yet. But, still considering buying out my '06, assuming the price is right. Then I'll let you guys be the guinea pigs while I wait in the weeds for the right time to pounce. I know you are pretty well tired of the E66, but I'm still content for the time being.

aren't we a glutton...
I did some quick and rough numbers.
750Li with every available option is about $113,000.
24 month/15K per year lease at MSRP about $2700/month, and that's with the ultra-low special rate for returning 7-series customers.
Now there are variables. I'm assuming you weren't planning on paying MSRP. There's about $9-10K between cost and MSRP in that particular car. If you want, I can give you the exact invoice prices for the base car and options. You can also do a longer term or a lower mileage allowance, as both would lower the payment. Lastly, I'm figuring tax in NJ. Tax in NJ stinks! NY is similar. If you live elswhere, the tax may be less. Believe me, that can make a significant difference on a car this expensive.

Re: My numbers...
If I recall correctly, BW promised to guinea pig the car for the rest of us.
Hey... anyone remember that guy back when we all were in our first E65/66s who put the video camera in his car to capture the insanity? Good times! Can't think of his name...<small>

Re: Conley!...that's it
Man, this board sure was hopping back in the day. It's funny, the other day I was reading one of the Blackberry boards (I got the new Storm) and ran across "drberman" (he used the same name there), the old Lexus guy who used to antagonize -- I mean post -- here.<small>

Re: Mercedes S63 AMG???
I haven't driven the AMG S-Class. I've driven a S550 several times, though, and hated it. That said, I'm sure the S63 is a beast.
I love the look of the newly facelifted Maser QP, but couldn't bring myself to ever buy one, especially given the dealership situation in my area. It's an absolute beauty, though.
I don't know... I'm just not feeling the new 7. Maybe that will change once I see it.<small>
