    installing new brake light switch

I found the Pelican Technical article on how to replace the brake light switch.

    http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/techarticles/E36-Brake_Switch/E36-Brake_Switch.htm

I was able to yank my old switch out by breaking the plastic housing. I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on installing the new switch??? I can see that it should only be inserted in one orientation, but I can't get it to lock in place.

It should slip into the bracket with the pedal depressed. Then, when you release the pedal the first time, as it depresses the button, it will also depress the red plastic ring around the button; The red ring spreads apart the fingers that lock the housing into the bracket. This is not very clear on the Pelican page.
