Check engine warning
I am getting the Check Engine/Service Engine soon warning. When I run diag, it says it is an emissions-fault. Is this anything I should worry about, or just ignore it? 2002 745Li with 51K miles.
I recently moved and closest dealer is 1.5 hours away so it is a pain to take the car in.
Note: the warning came on the day after I got back from dealer for an oil change. Coincidence or is it possible they forgot to do something?
TIA

Re: Check engine warning
Can your code scanner clear the fault? If so I would try that and see if it comes back on.
As far as the oil change goes it is a straight forward job, no disconnecting of any engine sensors/harnesses is required, a "caveman" job.
Was it just an oil change or was there any other services involved?
If the fault is temporary and it "goes away" then the light may turn off after 5 driving cycles.

Re: Check engine warning
I see, it sounded like you had a scan tool of your own.
Some local auto parts stores like Autozone or Pep Boys will scan your codes for free, maybe even clear them too if you are lucky.
Otherwise wait the 5 drivinf cycles and see what happens.
If the engine is running Ok then you dont need to worry too much, but you should still have it looked at so it doesn't get worse.
The message you are seeing in the i-drive is generic, it wont tell you exactly what is wrong, it is just to let you know something is up and to have it looked at.
