Drivers side wiper shudders across the screen

Sorry guys but I figured best to separate the two questions :)

1994 540i right hand drive:
My drivers side wiper shudders on the way back, the head is brand new, blades are new, it appears that there is wear in the drive mechanism of the wiper motor assembly, is this the issue here?

Any good tips on removing the wiper drive assembly? I have the tools to be able to mill out the housing and sleeve the output shafts if wear is a problem, but easier options are very welcome!

Replacing the wiper drive mechanism with a good S/H unit would likely be the easiest if it is the issue, but what to look for when buying a s/h motor assembly??

All I did was bend the wiper gently so that it was less angled on the way up and more on the way down and it stopped. I know it's not the most technical solution but it worked for me! I'll be reading other posts on this to see hopefully find a better way though.

Does your wiper arm also hit the edge of the hood when in the full down position?

Yes it just touches the bonnet when in operation, well it used to, the paint is worn off in the one spot so it doesnt touch anymore.

I will try bending the arm so the head leans more on the way back and see if it helps, it appears the wiper pivot points in the motor assembly are worn and a little sloppy, also the screen is sand blasted a bit and really should be replaced. Really annoying, this and the godamn buzzing coming from the same area is driving me nuts!

If it is or was touching the bonnet then you could try taking it off and moving it one tooth round on the cog so that it's pointing very slightly upwards more. That wont stop the shuddering but it may stop the buzzing if currently it's slightly at the wrong angle whilst resting.1993 520i

I saw a write up on fixing the issue with the wiper arm hitting the hood last year. You might try searching the archives and see if you can locate it. If I remember correctly the fix was not too difficult and did not take long.

New last month - 4 Yokahomas, belts, valve cover gasket, oil and filter, brake fluid flush, brake pads, remote key fob and various dash lights. Next on the list - shocks, sway bar links and front upper strut mounts.

Well its all fixed, in the end all that was needed was a pair of large adjustable spanners and some twisting motion :))
All I did was twist the flat section of the arm until the blade was at around 90 degrees to the glass, so that it would flop side to side more evenly as it passed back and forth. Bingo its fixed 100%!
