Springs keep getting hairline cracks.
As the subject says, every 500 milesish one of my springs sags low due to these little hairline cracks that I get. I have to end up changing it with the one next to it and then 500 milesish later, one from the other pair goes. The shockabsorbers themselves are fine, absorb bumps nicely and last as long as they should but the ride height drops on whichever corner has the fault spring.
I was considering paying a bit more for a set of bilsteins, (especially as I need to replace them anyway now). A mechanic I know said that the bilsteins are good but too expensive for what they are and that I could get coil overs which would help. I don't have any wish to change the ride height or the way it handles but I do want to spend enough money to get proper springs that can handle enthusiastic driving for longer than 1000 miles.
What do you guys reckon?
Thanks, Erolc1993 520i
