    Door locks

Anyone else have a problem with their door locks? It started by the driver's side lock not unlocking when I push the remote and now neither door unlocks and I have to use the key. They both lock though with a push of the key button.

I have that problem from time to time. Usually, after I drive for a while, it starts working normally.<img src="http://members.roadfly.com/mikmor/Z4thumb.jpg">

    Re: Door locks

The problem I have with my locks (has happened twice now) is on the driver side.

I'll be *inside* the car and when I try to open the car the door will not unlock. I know the first pull on the handle unlocks the car, and the second pull actually opens it. I have to use the remote on the key to unlock it first. I hope I don't find myself in a burning car and have this happen!

Door will not open at 58k miles

my door problems just started too.
i would lock the doors with the top and windows down. press the remote to unlock the doors and the little buttons on the door do pop up; but the driver side door will not open. i would vault over the door and try the interior door pull and that still doesn't work.
the only way to get this door to open is to roll the glass window back up.
of course, it is intermittent. could this be a computer glitch?

    Re: Door locks

I have a 2004 with low miles (under 17,000) and the door problem just started. The passenger side door will not unlock - neither with remote or the unlock button on the inside. I have to reach in and open with the inside opener. Problem has just started and is very annoying. The car is now out of warranty but the remote opener should work in any case. If not, then the center console unlock should work. Anyone able to give advice on this??

    Re: Door locks

I had the exact same problem. This is what solved it for me. It's been fine for many months now.

door lock FIXED - 61k mi.

took the driver side door panel off and peered inside. very tight, very dark.
    the problem:
whenever the glass window rolled down it would drag on the short bowden cable connecting the exterior door handle to the locking mech. with this cable being bent down with no slack, it had the effect of tightening the inner wire and disabling the lock.
only after rolling the glass back up (and hearing the scraping sound) would the cable spring back to it's natural position.
    the solution:
a long, thin wire-tie to anchor the cable to the internal door frame.
it took three cautious hours. i didn't disconnect the battery and was very careful not to damage/set off the damn airbag. took dave farnsworth's advise (june09 roundel) not to disconnect the airbag wire harness. all is okay; no lights on the dash. feel really good about tackling the next diy - replacing oil level sensor.
