Trade a Z8 for a new Z4!!
Come on Scott,
You must be kidding!
But would you trade your Z3??
I wouldn't trade my E85 for an E89 I surely wouldn't trade a Z8 for one.
20 seconds of a hard top would keep me away not to mention the loss of trunk space with the top down.

Well, for what I may get for the Z8.....
I can buy the Z4 S Drive35i and a Morgan.
I have set the price at the upper end of the market so the sale will produce a profit.
Believe me, the Z8 is a great car but a great collector once told me that the way to add to a collection (or in my case-start one) is to buy one car, then trade / sell it for two.
Have you driven the new Z4? It is beautiful and every bit a sports car.
Oh yea, I will be buried in my Z3.

That is what I thought when I bought....
it as an investment but two bits of reality have set in:
Production numbers on the Z8 are too high for it to amass the the value that so many people have speculated (based / compared to the the 507). Appx 5600 VS appx 250.
I absolutely HATE to have a car just sit there. Every time I walk into the garage I see this beautiful car wasting away. Cars are made to be driven-not parked. I have been trying to keep the mileage low so that the value remains high but I am about to give up on that. If the guy who my dealer knows, pays me what I want, I will sell it because my word is my bond. Otherwise I will not sell it nor will i try to sell it.

Hum...I dunno about that...
I just bought a Morgan and it is one of only 100 made so with the low number and it's frame off-restored condition, I may may get a better return on my investment than I would with the Z8.
By the way, I will probably hold on to the Z8 unless I suddenly need the money.

Doesn't stir any emotions for me either.
Even the service advisor at my local dealer, who I'm good friends with (both work related and personal) said that the sales staff aren't particularly happy either. I didn't ask him to elaborate, but I assume because of the fact that the Z4 never really sold all that well anyway, and the new one seems to look eerily similar to the outgoing one (as opposed to how different the Z4 was from the Z3 for example), they're expecting low sales volumes. On top of that is how ridiculous the pricing is purported to be. Way too close to Boxster territory it sounds like. As much as I like BMW, truth is they will likely always play second fiddle to Porsche when it comes to sports cars.

Re: Doesn't stir any emotions for me either.
I agree, I test drove it and it was pretty boring. Of course the one I tested was the dual clutch auto. Maybe if it was a manual it would have been better. I decided to purchase the last 2008 Imola Red M roadster over it since the M had a lot more edgier/sports car feel and handling. Just because it has a hardtop was not the selling point to me. I would rather have the wow and fun factor in the M roadster that I purchased last weekend after doing my research on the new Z4.<p>

Little Rock BMW's 35i @ Ozark Z Club picnic -
Dave Lisk - Regional Rep for Ozark ZSCCA getting the fine points from Lynn Goslin, Client Advisor from BMW of Little Rock (Lynn's daily driver is a Z4!) - Thanks Lynn!
One of the very few pictures of me . . . only because of the Z4!
My 2 cents - Very nice! It's a whole new car - very likely worth the price. They should have given it a different name - Z5,Z6,Z7 . . . anything else - it's not a Z4!
Drove it at the dealer and it has a great feel - at all speeds!
Love my real Z4!
(wish I had kept my Z3 too!)
Best!
