what's the story with aftermarket rims? safe?

hey guys i am looking at putting 18's on my 05 Z4 2.5i. i know some people are hardcore OEM rim advocates, but wanted to hear from any folks who have aftermarket rims and can suggest good manufacturers with reasonable prices. Deep lip rims would look great on my car with gunmetal. This style hard to find or not available on OEM or are crazy expensive.

how do aftermarket compare to OEM? Is there that big a difference?

I have a set of aftermarket wheels from tire rack which are performing fine. Their web site is interactive so that you can see the wheels on your car.

If you choose a wheel from a recognized

aftermarket wheel manufacturer, it will very likely be superior to your OEM's. Generally speaking, many of BMW's wheels are on the heavy side. Many of the aftermarket's are lighter, which means less unsprung weight which you'll notice in better performance and gas mileage. Wheels are one of the most justifiable upgrades you can make to your car.
