2nd Opinion Please on Vacuume leak

Dealer first says I need Air flow replaced on 98 749il 174k miles. We did that last year. You need tune up engine running lean. No, this just started using more gas. Now it's a vacumme leak that requires removing intake and 5 hours labor to fix. What a person to do. Throw money ayt it? Need unbias opionions, Thanks

    Much more information needed...

First, you have a typo in the model-- you have a 1998 740iL, right?

What are the symptoms (everything you can think of)?
What are the engine diagnostics codes?
What is all the recent service you have performed?

I can hear hissing sound. The 1998 740il is running rich and using more gas.The idle is rough. Check engine light is on. replaced mass air flow unit last year. What more can I add?

Re: 2nd Opinion Please on Vacuume leak

If dealer is on track... the problem is bit more deeper and besides the breather tube includes to replace the oil separator valve [OSV]... if not as soon as breather tube is replaced the OSV goes bad making very loud noise originating at the OSV. It means replacing intake manifold gasket twice... if dealer is smart you will charge for doing same thing twice... making you believe it was your fault. This deal is love OPM [making money]. LOL
