    2000 XK8 Seat

The right seat back is in a fully reclined position and will not return.

    History:
Found the seat in a fully forward position after a hard rain and the passenger window open about two inches. Put the seat back in upright position just fine. Next morning seat again in fully forward position, again repositioned seat. Placed seat in fully back position to check operation of system. Now seat will not go forward.
When switch is activated for backward, hear relay clicking. Activating button for forward no sound from relay.

    Checked the following items:
Removed switch and disassembled checking for water, none.
Check for corroding on switch buttons (small carbon dots on rubber membrane), all clean
Checked for continuity on all points of board, all good.
Checked for continuity when switch is activated, works fine.
Removed seat module and disassembled. All dry and clean with all plug pins looking good.

Does anyone know if the relays can be replaced or how to check?

Tried the opposite seat controller on drive side on side that is not working to see if the seat works properly. It does.
Probably due to water intrusion at some point the memory of the controller was affected.

    Now what?

If I recall your relay and fuses are located on the side of you dash when you open the door.

I searched around on the net for a used one. Paid about $80 for it.

Have you tried spraying it with WD40? That was originally designed to get water out of electronics. WD = Water Dispersing

I would open the controller and use compressed air to blow the circuitry dry. I would then spray it lightly as Tom indicated with the WD40 and see how it responds.

    Hey Walt,

I went into my controller to fix it with a full recline/would not move failure. It was a run on the circuit board that had abraded through. I did a simple jumper wire repair. Yours may have a single drop of water in it that's shorting out the system.

The controller is under the seat, center front. I think there are two 10mm nuts that have to be loosened to release the "J" hook holes that anchor the controller. The hardest part is getting the cable harness to release but that's not hard. The cover is plastic and has four or so fastening points; just work 'em loose. On the component side of the circuit card, look upper right hand corner. You don't have to have the controller back in place to test it - just plug and play.

    Hope this helps,
    Jay

Check the switch for water intrusion too.

One caveat I left out is that all aspects of the seat moving works with the original controller other then the one function. Again, when I connect the driver side controller from the passenger side all works correctly.

There are five relays on the circuit board I think one is not working correctly. Can these relays be check for functionality and replaced? Does anyone know which pin is for the relay coil or if they are normally open or closed. They appear to be hermetically sealed and are all soldered onto the board

I'll have to look at my controller but it's on the right side. Do look at the run on the circuit car for a minute break. You can see where the case rubs on the car. You can solder a jumper across the break to fix it but use a low wattage pencil iron.

Clean the area with a pencil eraser first. Take a small stran of wire from a multi-stran; about 1/4 of an inch piece and solder it in place.

If you want me to send a picture, let me know.

    Hey Walt,

OK, I'm going to try to insert pic's using this program. If this fails, email me.

Jay, that was the problem. All works now.
I am going to look at the other side and remove the ledge on the housing for both units.
