    Help with new Key/Remote

    Years ago when I first got my 2003 Z4 3.0i my wife promptly lost her key/remote.

    Well, she's gone too now, and I was thinking of replacing the second key. I went on Ebay and found I can get a blank Key with remote for around $45. They say they send instructions on how to program it and to bring it to the dealer or a locksmith to cut the key.

    I called one local BMW dealer who said the key was $199, that they have to send to BMW for it, and that they cant cut a blank. It is done thru corporate.

    I called a locksmith who said he couldnt do it.

    Before I call more locksmiths, does anyone have any experience with this. Do I have to buy thru the dealer?

    My understanding is tHe key is cut with a laser and it has to come from BMW!!
