    Upper Radiator Hose (driver side)

Greetings. My 2000 740I overheated last week. It ripped the hose plastic tee fitting on the right side hose where it tees into the alternator. I thought it was the thermostat had stuck so I replaced it and the hose. Now I notice, the hose gets really hot and very hard under pressure. Is seems like it is about to burst it is so hard. The temp gauge doesn't go beyond the mid point so it isn't over heating. I checked the system for leaks and found none. My question is the hose supposed to be that hard and hot under pressure? I can't even touch it due to the heat it radiates. Any suggestions???
