Durafix aluminum welding rods: any feedback?
Still working on the oil cooler project. I got the Mocal takeoff plate but I don't have enough clearance to put a bolt on fitting in the outlet side.
The idea is now to get a 90deg flare fitting and weld it on the outlet.
While doing some searcing around the net I run into a product called Durafix Welding Rods. They are some kind of solderind material that appear to be pretty strong.
Anyone has any experience?
Here's a link: http://durafix.com/ and here's a Youtube video...

Re: Durafix aluminum welding rods: any feedback?
I've used it. Pretty cool stuff. I didn't really put it through its paces with anything mechanically stressful, but it does melt with a blow torch just as shown.
I bought it at a woodworking show (ironic) but I've also seen it sold at one time at Harbor Freight.
The fact that it doesn't stick to steel is useful. You can melt it around a steel bolt and then remove the bolt after it has cooled to repair stripped aluminum threads. I'm not sure if that was mentioned in the video (no speakers on computer).
