How bad is the throttle lag in your BMW?

What do you do to try to lessen it or get rid of it? BMW definitely has to work on this!

mine was bad...as was the shifting from my ZF auto

I asked for and received a software update and all is GREAT! There should be ZERO lag when done

Re: How bad is the throttle lag in your BMW?

What model do you have? Assuming it's a 335i of some sort, here's my experience: If you have the older 29.xxx software, which was installed in 2006-early 2008 cars, it's pretty bad. See the numerous threads about "turbo lag" on the various forums.

The fix is to take it into the dealer, complain about turbo lag and lousy performance off the line, and get the OK to update the software to current levels. Here is the catch -- if you do the update, there is a high probablility you will exchange turbo lag for turbo noise...the "wastegate rattle" also posted about endlessly. In fact, part of the procedure for 06 and 07 cars is they are supposed to warn you of the possibility of increased noise!

Take it from me, it's a LOT increased! My '08 went from no turbo rattle at all to very noticeable -- but, the throttle lag also went away. I'd rather have the rattle than the lag, but YMMMV.

Note that the upgrade isn't automatic -- the dealer has to test and verify the lag, and call BMWNA for approval. But if you complain loudly enough, you can get it approved. Then the update can take most of a day, once they start.

If you don't have a 335, then this doesn't apply to you...
