I ended up having to do a fairly half-azzed job.
I didn't have something to remove the Welch plates. So I had to do the best I could and clean the rest. If necessary, I'll get a tiny chisel and get those SOBs out.
A good deal of gunk came out and the needle valves were both pretty carbon coated. So I know it did some good in the process.

Upon cleaning and reinstallation my snowblower runs much better. It doesn't need the choke to run and it can actually idle at below full throttle. It doesn't feel like it's running at full power, however.

I'm going to grab a new plug this afternoon just for the heck of it even if I think the current one is OK.

I'll be adding SeaFoam to all of my gas from now on too. Perhaps that will help some over time as well.

At the end of the day, it was fun to have the thing all apart and get it back together. No photos needed. (took them, but didn't use them)

Still surging, but at least it's not stalling out or running on choke only. I'm going to play with the idle adjustment and the main nozzle adjustment on the second pass.

It still just doesn't have the nice power and smooth running that I would want from a 8hp.

Plug will have to wait until tomorrow.

Stupid P.o.S.

Ripped the starter cord this afternoon. I'm ready to junk this thing. Who would pay me a nickel for it?

if im going to replace the whole starter unit (more expensive, but I assime it just bolts on)
or if I'm going to try and replace/repair the cord (more difficult, but free or very cheap for some new cord)============================================= ============

I had a similar problem last year. Right as we got about 3-4 feet.

Electric quit working and I broke the cord. You actuially have to buy a new recoil unit as well.

Starter's were running almost $200, (I would have bought a new one before spending that much on a starter) until a message board gave me a different part # to look for.

It's just that the cord snapped. I just checked the manual and it may be a very easy fix... if I can get new cord or if the old fragment snapped right at the knot I can use it again.============================================ =============

if you want to stay on budget, a starter cord kit can be had for cheap. get the kit that includes the spring tensioner tool. it should come with how to instructions.

I just said screw it and pulled the starter unit off the front of the stupid thing. The cord snapped right at the knot so I pulled out the stub reinstalled the old cord, except its about only 3 inches shorter, no big deal. I realize it's a stop gap fix since it's obviously an old rope, but it works again.
I couldn't seem to adjust the main valve and the idle to get rid of the surging under full throwing load, however. It throws without stalling and that's good enough for now considering we are getting more snow every day for the next few days.
I'll grab a new plug to cover one last base tomorrow.

we only had 2 inches on the ground so it didn't get a full workout, but it was definitely smoother.
