    tie rod's days are numbered

I'm replacing my right side tie rod this weekend and have read through most of the relevant threads here. I'll probably use a pipe wrench to loosen the inner tie rod from the steering rack since I don't have a 28mm crowfoot or breaker bar. I know it will most likely require some muscle but what I'm wondering is if I need to counter torque the steering rack while I'm applying pressure to release the tie rod. I wouldn't want to damage the rack in the process.
    Thanks, tom 82 - 320i

    installed with bogus securing plate

The old came off no problem. I replaced with a Meyle rod and theirs has a larger end nut - 32mm. The OEM tie rod has a 28mm end nut and the BMW securing washer is made to fit it. It just barely bends over the new rod- hope that will suffice. Anyone have any suggestions ?
