This is a dumb question but I must know...

Does BMW Assist know the mileage of your vehicle at any given time? Can they get your car's mileage automatically and know when you are due for service?

    It's the other way around...

The computer knows how many miles, and calls the dealer, who presumably then calls you to schedule an appointment.

On a side note, even without the Nav/iDrive, the car knows where it is - the GPS chip is buried somewhere in the car's electronics. This is so that the SOS function, or airbag activation, will properly report your position to 911.

Does the SOS work after 4 yr / 50k miles?

even if you are not enrolled in any additional service?
Does that SOS button work for the life of the car? (as long as there is cell signal)

No. The number is deactivated after the service

    expires.
