Need new tires for the 650

Found a rip in the sidewall of my right front tire. Need to replace and looking for recommendations on which brand and model to go with (or stay with Bridgestone). Open to non-rft options as well

I was persuaded to try non-RFTs by huppla on this and other forums. Claims of quieter, softer ride, better grip and so on. Michelin PS2s were the number one choice. Tried a set. Went back to OEM Bridgestone RFTs. I could barely, if at all, tell any difference in noise, comfort or grip. In fact, in spirited driving in autocross or NC, TN twisty mountain road conditions, the PS2s were worse for hard cornering feel and control. They did not last as long (~18k versus 24k miles on average for OEM RFTs). I am happy to be back on my OEM tires. That PS2 mileage is about 75% of the OEM tire mileage and close to the cost difference as well so one might say so what? Well I liked the cornering feel better, and the safety factor of just knowing you will not have a blowout causing significant loss of control is enough for me to stay the RFT course.

Cobradav: for all these years, I've admired your photo, both for the car and the house with it. It finally dawned on me, that is the Biltmore house. nice digs. In nearby Flat Rock lives my silver grey 6. --- yes, the NC twisty roads are much fun, but stay off the shoulder. I tracked a turn beyond driving school close and buldged a side wall. Bent the aluminum ring that Goodyear Eagle uses?

I never realized that would be misconstrued as my house - haha. Yes that was from my second Southeast Sharkfest (SESF), this one held at the Biltmore which permitted us to get up close and personal to the estate house.

Was that just the force of the turn or did the shoulder have a pot hole? You know all the turnouts are now paved on the ToD. Probably helps the bikers more than us as it helps keep them from laying them over, expecially the big crusiers.

We are headed up there to ToD in late April prior to going to SESF in Spartanburg April 30-May 1. Come on and join us. Lots of good people and fun.

I caught the shoulder on the inside of a right curve, so right wheel weight was minimum, but... there was a drop down in the shoulder followed by partly exposed big rock giving a 3-4-inch sharp rise, and at pretty good speed, accelerating thru the turn. 1 jarring bump - front wheel only surprisingly. Didn't lose any pressure, but after a few weeks of looking at the slight bulge, elected to replace tire as safety first. --- what's ToD? -- Can't do SESF as will be in Texas at that time. I want to get in on one someday.

Copy that safety related change out.

ToD is Tail of the Dragon. A part of highway 128 that runs from Deals Gap in North Carolina to about 11 miles into Tennessee (river and bridge mark the end) where there are 318 curves in 11 miles. Has its own web site ( 2-wheeler oriented) if you wish to do more research. Recognized by many as one of the most challenging and entertining stretches or road in the US and the world. It is within a National Preserve so there are no residences and only one dirt/gravel road intersects (used by park rangers) More challenging than many tracks and autocross, BUT... very narrow and always two way traffic. Makes it very exciting and dangerous.
