    New Owner

I recently purchased a 2004 645Ci coupe, sports package, logic 7, chromed BMW ellipsoid wheels. Missing a few of the later features but I have to say it is an amazing car to drive. It is one of the few Chiaretto Red Metallic ones, beige, light birch inside. Used Pinnacle's paint cleaner/polisher and Souverign Carnuba wax designed for red and black cars and it came out very well. The black, grey and silver ones are great too but I've always been partial to red. The wax deepens the red and the copper metallic fleck subtly changes the car color in different lighting or on the curves of the car. Very nice! In my past, I've had the pleasure of driving jaguar xke, datsun 240z, acura cl, etc but driving the 645Ci is an experience!

Congrats. Fine car and color. I just past my 5 year anniversary at 99,000 miles on my 645Ci. Still brings a smile and thrill to drive.

Thanks. Been a fan of 2 door coupes all my life. Besides really liking the style of the car, the engine, transmission and suspension are solid and world class. Certainly smiling too. Car is just turning 74k kilometers which is around 46,000 miles.

    6 series 'paint'

I recall reading/seeing somewhere that the top coat on a 6er is not really a paint, but rather some new kind of ceramic, put on as a white powder and then melted into a clear, glass-like material. (purpose is to avoid any paint with VOC; all coats under the ceramic supposedly water-based). Further, something about no need to seal or wax this type of material. Anyone have clarification on this?

    Re: 6 series 'paint'

yes, I have seen a 3 part video series called "Birth of a Sports Car" that followed the design, testing, and production of the 645Ci. They did show the "white powder" step that then was heated. I assumed this was how they did their clearcoat. For my 2004 car, there were minor paint swirls and marks that were cleaned up with the paint cleaner/polisher. The carnuba wax did improve the finish and seemed to deepen the red color. Overall, a noticeable difference for the Chiaretto red.
