What a nice weekend it was...

...Sunny and 70s all weekend. Spent a couple of evenings repairing the front ceiling panel on the 633. I had to pull the sun visors, mirror, etc. to remove the panel. The covering was delaminating from the fiberboard beneath and the fiberboard itself had several cracks running through it which weakened the structure and caused it to sag. I fixed it with Fiberglass drywall tape and 2 part epoxy. Then reglued the covering with fabric glue which I held in place with clamp type paper clips. I also fabricated a hanging bracket that was missing from one side using a picture frame retaining clip. Though not quite as nice as a new one at $200, it only cost me a couple of hours time, and a couple of dollars for materials to restore it.

I also installed the new sheepskins. That took me almost 2 hours Saturday morning. The covers were a good, but tight fit. I really had to wrestle with the headrests. These are nice Australian Merino pelts in "charcoal". Damn... now I need to buy some new Black/Gray Coco mats to match and get the full 80s retro effect. Happy 30th birthday old car!!!

Later I took Christine out for a cruise to a restaurant on Chesapeake Bay. Saturday evening watched the 12 of Sebring. The Rahal/Letterman M3s came in 2nd & 3rd. I completed my taxes Sunday while watching the Jimmy Johnson Show at Bristol.

What, not even BBQ sheep over charcoal?

I had forgotten how comfortable sheep pelts were compared to plain black leather seats. The sheep died, and the pelts were dyed. (Charcoal ;-)

I also watched Bristol, but from the Allison

Grandstand. You could hear 130,000 people sigh on lap 497 when Johnson took the final lead.Bristol is an absolute must do for any Nascar fan.

    Time or money?

I'm not quite ready yet to lay out the several kilobucks for new hides, and after I do, I will still want to have something to protect them.

BTW - Thanks, glad you like them. I was COUNTING on YOUR approval ;-)

Nice to have a wife who understands.

Sarah is one of those people who thinks a car is a way to get from A to B, so the less money spent on them, the better. She grudgingly went along with the Z4. I had thought about a nice E24 M6, but figured the upkeep would be a constant source of stress.___________________________________________ _________________

    She figures...

...I'm not drinking, smoking, or chasing other women so she's cool with it. I think she actually likes the old cars a little bit too. That car was built the year we met. She gave it to me (took me to DC to buy it) for my birthday 2 years ago.

I've never seen how one could see a car as just a

with no soul. And there are a lot of those out there these days.

I am sure some will disagree, but seems like most Japanese cars have very little soul to them, good cars, but just....

You're using the word "soul" as a euphemism

for "costs a lot of time and money".
