My muffler is sounding load now. I noticed a butterfly valve in one of the tail pipes. Is it possible that this is not working correctly? When is it supposed to close? And what does it do?
I have a 1999 C328i M series convertible.

It closes below 2,000 RPM
for either improved emissions or better low-RPM torque, depending on whose posting you read in the archives on the E36 board.
