V12 thermostat: seeking advice on DIY replacement

My 2000 750iL is giving an 8b code on my PEAKE tool (electronic thermostat control final stage). When I clear the code, the light comes back the 2nd time I start up thereafter (not the first time, the second. I also get Fd, which apparently refers to the aux fan).

Anyway, I want to replace the thermostat but I haven't been able to find a write-up on JUST the thermostat for the V12. Has anyone managed to replace the thermostat by itself, without removing the water pump and a lot of other components?

    Thanks for any advice.

Looks like 4 small bolts. thermostat, o-ring, and

    hose connection. Pretty straight forward.

    Re: Picture.

Thanks - it does look pretty easy from the pic. Now I'll go compare the picture with the car and see if there's anything else in the way :^)
