CSi Exhaust?
I'm thinking about putting the CSi exhaust on my '91 850i and I'm at least pretty sure that it can be done. I did a search for the topic and didnt come up with much, so thats why I ask. Do you guys know if I could get the CSi exhaust from Gault and/or how much it would run me? And I'm probably just looking for the center res and the cans (w/ tips.) Anybody have any input? Thanks

Center res is same. rear muffler is diff but
the difference is small compare to the price difference.
Get a quality muffler or magnaflow... not that magnaflow isn't quality but there are some more expensive and nicer ones.

I have 1 CSI lower spoiler and 1 MK Spoiler
and 1 R&D filled panel still for sale. The next shipment is heavily delayed due to a lot of trouble with the shipment from europe.

CSi Tips?
I ordered the Magnaflow cans and got them in. I've been shopping around for tips to put on the cans, and for some reason, I'm really drawn to the CSi tips. Does anyone know the measurements of those tips? Length? Diameter? I know they're staggered so if someone could tell me the length of the shorter one and the longer one that would be great, but I'm sure the muffler shop that I go to would at least be able to ballpark it. Any help always appreciated. Thanks guys.

Re: CSi Tips?
I found the tips on Realoem.com (part number 82119401152.) The only thing is, it says that they're "chrome?" Weren't the CSi tips stainless steel? Because I've seen that CSi for sale on eBay (the one that started out at like $95K and is now like $79k) and those tips dont look chrome to me. Anybody have any insight? Thanks

Re: fwiw - I gave Gault my VIN when I ordered
Finished the paint this weekend. Gonna give it a couple of days, then buff it before install.
Jef, how much did they charge for the paint? By the time I got the paint supplies and my time spent I'd guess mine cost more! But painting is something I enjoy so.....

That's an error in the ETK. The part number given is for the rectangular chrome tips of the 850i and 850Ci - not the round stainless steel tips from the 850CSi. As far as I know the 850CSi tips are not even available separately - they are part of the mufflers. There was a discussion about it recently at 8er.org in the topic Bying original mufflers for 850CSI (forum requires registration, but is free). Displayed below is the left 850CSi muffler:
I do not have the dimensions at hand, but if no one else responds I'll measure them one of these days.

Much easier: get the 840 tips. In my experience...
.... even a trashed rusted out exhaust from these cars (both V8 and V12)leaves the tips in great shape as they are heavy gauge steel. IMO the V8 tips have the proper compound stagger. Adding the 850 tips to magnaflows is a great mod, and the same would hold for V8 ones. Unless this were a faithful restoration or maintenance of an actual CSI I can't see how you could justify the expense.

I agree. The Ci tip is actually square and this
magnaflow here also comes with square tip. Not exactly same but you get the picture :-)
Part # 14833
cost is $169.95 plus about 10usd for shipping (from me) . Jegs and Summit is more, but nobody can advertise any lower price then MSRP on Magnaflow.

Hi Laszlo - what about shipping for us guys in UK?
I need 2 - am not really bothered if they have square or round tips but would like the polished stainless steel look. Do I have to fabricate the hanging clips by welding on to the back boxes?
I understand that he original mufflers are somewhat assymetric. The left side is a standard bolt off bolt on but the RHS has a longer pipe which is welded with a sleeve before reaching the centre resonator.
Do you supply an x-pipe? What are the pros an cons of deleting the centre resonator using straight pipes or replacing with an x pipe?
Thanks.

wow, lots of questions :-) I try and answer all
the X-pipe in place of a factory resonator (which is a functional x-pipe) is to make the system a bit more loud and lighter.
The muffler is also same benefits, more noise and looks fancy and less weight.
The downside is you can actually loose back pressure and low end torque with too free of an exhaust and you can actually have too much noise (unless you are 18-20 y/o will not like that)
My suggestion is for 840 owners and from experience : leave the factory resonator in place and replace the end mufflers with the magnaflow.
or leave the factory mufflers and replace the resonator with x-pipe but do not do both. too loud, not enough back pressure.
850 owners however reported moderate noise level with x-pipe and magnaflow mufflers. they also did not report any power loss either. It must be due to the different firing order and the nature of the V12 engine... I can not test it in person so I'm not going to make a statement on that.
You do need to fabricate a rear pipe for the mufflers, cost me 140usd for a pair total - incl the pipes, the hangers, install, etc. welded system.
I also have a pair of resonators on each side to quiet it down which were an additional 45usd each. (hence the reason I do not recommend removing the factory resonator, you end up with an another resonator on the 840's pretty soon)
a pair of magnaflow is around 144-165 usd each and the x-pipe is about 85 usd.
go onto the magnaflow's website - www.magnaflow.com and choose what you like and email me the part #'s.
Shipping should not be much, we could use the good ol' post office (royal mail for UK) and they are reasonably inexpensive and fairly quick too.
we should discuss the rest of the details in the emails, so avoid pissing off the rest of the members with business deals :-)
My email is on the top, just shoot me an email and I forward the prices to you along with some pictures. I have a set of magnaflow with an X-pipe and individual resonators. I can take a picture of my system.
There is a youtube video of the car starting and revving up... if I can remember what was the title... :-)
