Sport Opt - question
I've been looking for a nice low mileage 740, specifically the '99-'01 740i Sport and some of the later cars have sport seats but not the 3-spoke Sport steering wheel, some have the standard trans and some the newer Triptonic, some have the lower trim color matched to the car paint color and some are trimmed in Black ........ what are the true Sport options that are identifiable with the Sport Pkg ..... not just someone putting the M-Parallel wheels on their 740i and selling it as a "Sport-740i"
Thanks for your input ...

Steptronic transmission
The official Shorty Sporty has the following:
* 18" M Parallel wheels
* Exterior "Shadowline" blackout trim
* Lower 3.15 rear differential gear ratio
* Vavona redwood interior trim
* Steptronic transmission
* High-stall-speed torque converter
* 3-spoke M sport steering wheel
* 18-way Contour sport front seats
* Sport suspension
The best way to visually identify a 740i Sport is the Steptronic transmission. This only came on the 750iL and the 740i Sport. It is hard to retrofit, whereas the rest of the options were either available to order as options or a previous owner could have retrofit them. (Or you can't see them, like the suspension, rear differential, and torque converter.)

Shadowline is a combo of black and body color...
The Shadowline trim is basically un-chroming the exterior. The chrome around the side windows is blacked out. The chrome strips on the tops of the bumpers are body colored. The chrome strip on the body side molding is blacked out. The chrome trim above the license plate is deleted.

The 99 740i sport pkg didn't come with the 3-spoke
M steering wheel. That feature was added to the package later in the production run. Also, if the car was ordered with the heated steering wheel...it would also be missing the M 3-spoke steering wheel.
So if you run across a 99 (early build) with a 4 spoke steering wheel...but all of the other "visual" components of the sport pkg (18 way sport seats, shadowline ext trim, STEPTRONIC, 18" staggered MPars, Vavona Redwood int trim)...don't be thrown off...again, the M 3-spoke steering wheel wasn't featured in the first offerings of the short sport. Or, if you run across a 00/01 that has the HEATED 4 spoke steering wheel...and all of the other features...the 3 spoke steering wheel doesn't have the "heated" feature...thus if the heated steering wheel was ordered (or added later)...a short sport could be found not having the 3-spoke steering wheel.
