Newbie with an engine light issue

I just bought a 2007 Mini Cooper S three days ago. It has 23,000 miles. Today the check engine light came on and stayed on. It's solid and not flashing. Since I'm new to this, does anyone have any advice to offer? My nearest Mini dealer is 85 miles away. Please let me know if I can safely drive it. I'm hoping if some repairs are needed that it's covered by the "dealer" I just bought it from with his 30 day/3,000 mile guarantee or what's left of the manufacturer's warranty. Any idea of what the manufacturer's warranty is? 3 year/30,000 or 5 year/50,000?? Thanks!

oooh....I'd be careful. don't drive it with light

on. that light actually means there is a good chance your engine will explode, and not like in a ka-blam-o kind of way, but like a big ball of hellfire death. Don't f with this. consider returning the car asap under local lemon laws. or leave the keys in it in a bad part of town so some hobo gets in and starts it up and hopefully burns in a hellfire death ball. two birds, one stone.

    Rock on.

probably just unmetered air, take it to Autozone

they can read your code for free.

Then go to the actual mini board and ask there for best results.
