Engine lacking "boost" in higher rpm.

I've a 2001 330i, and when I step deep into the gas pedal, the engine doesn't give that sudden power increase like it use to. When I down shift say from the 4th gear at 2500 rpm to 3rd 3300 rpm, in the past this would provide extra power and the car power sort of "jumps", now nothing happens, the acceleration is just very normal and flat.

I have changed the spark plug, engine oils, and there are no warning lights. I have unplugging the battery for a few months while in storage, so the computer settings would be factor default now.

Not sure what the problem is, any suggestions where I should look ? Thanks,

The filter plugs were installed in 2007, but the car has little mileage since then...the air/gas filter is probably 2 years ago, but again, little mileages.

Just brought a 2010 x5 diesel, fantastic interior, driving very tenderly now, can't wait to step on the pedal on a highway.

If "little mileage" includes a cold start followed by immediate shutdown, it's possible the plugs are fouled. I've done that moving the car out into the driveway to wash it, and then back into the garage.

Usually, though, you'll have alot of trouble starting the engine. If you suspect that, try driving it a good long distance, like on the freeway for an hour. If that doesn't help, try replacing the plugs.

I think fouled plugs is actually pretty unlikely, because it's less of a problem with modern fuel injected engines, but it's easy and inexpensive to rule out.

to fuel starvation. If it begins to miss at high RPMs then it might need a basic tune. Keep in mind that one sorry tank of fuel can kill a fuel filter. No codes yet, eh?

well then forget the E46 if you just bought a X5 Turbodiesel !!!!

but a fuel filter/regulator can be filled with crud/water/silt
from just one filling station - replace it - change oil&filter,
flush the brake fluid system and drive it

It's very likely the fuel filter/regulator is the problem, because I don't drive it much, the fuel levels are usually pretty low.

I still love my E46! It drives great and sounds better than the turbo diesel on the X5!
