camber
my 1998 mroadster is on it's second set of front tires that have worn severely on the inside edges. I need a camber adjustment and do not wish to buy the $300 camber plates as I do not use my car on the track. I just want my tires to last longer. I guess they are leaning in on the top - is that positive or neg camber??
I have read about some 'crash bolt' or cammed bolts that could be installed, but none of the sources listed pan out. Anyone done this and can help me out? FYI- I am a little oversize on the tires 235/45/17 I think. the stock narrow ones just did not look good to me. Oh, I also have the strut brace on top of the struts... if that matters. Please email any thoughts. thanks

Re: Ride heigth
I had the alignment checked by the best in our little town and he said it was all 'spot on' except needing the not available camber adjustment. the car has 80k on it and I suppose the front springs might be a tad tired, but it seems it would be cheaper to ajust the camber with these bolts, if I can find them.

Re: camber
Here's my term paper on camber. Sorry for the snide tone, but there was a history there.
Everything you wanted to know about camber but were afraid to ask.

I had to question your tone at first...
...and then I checked to see who you were responding to (or should I say, to whom you were responding...based on the grammatical discussion later in the thread). It all makes sense now :-)
I miss him...

Re: how's the new baby? getting any sleep?
The new baby is great. She even tolerated a visit from Z3BD! She sleeps quite a bit, unfortunately, that seems to be more during the day than at night! Usually wants to eat every three hours, which means two middle-of-the-night feedings. I take one and Kim takes the other. We're pretty tired, but fortunately my job is pretty flexible right now so I can manage. Starting to see some light at the end of the sleeping tunnel, so hopefully things start stretching a bit and we can get some "real" sleep for a while. Until teething starts.
Thanks for asking.

It's an old joke, Steve.
3liter used to DEMAND that you couldn't use impact wrenches for tightening OR loosening. I always said you absolutely could use them for loosening, and have special sockets for the purpose to protect my wheels. Then, during a plant tour at Homecoming, I noticed that they were using impact wrenches (calibrated, I'm sure) to put the wheels on the car. MinnMark and I laughed.
Matt was just rehashing "good" memories, methinks.

just a follow up on what was done..
I purchased the bmw camber corretion bolts and had them installed. The tech said it did not get me where I needed to be as they only allow for such little wiggle room. He then elongated the strut lower mounting holes with a rotary file and was very pleased to get the settings for proper camber.
He has a great local reputation as the front end specialist. I do hope he knows what he is doing. The car is driving great and only time will tell if I am still wearing the inside edges of my tires.
