    Rear View Mirror

This weekend I notice an out of focus oval area in my rear view mirror. My guess is that it's a de-lamination of the photochromic layer. Might be heat related, the car was parked at Citi Field for several hours in 90+ temps.(at least the Mets won) Anybody come across this before?

    Not in my '04 330Ci, but I had a

1992 LS400 and the same situation was endemic to this car. Just a wearing out of the product. Varies with temperature and although it is still usable, it is irritating.
Only remedy is to replace it.
    How expensive is your version?

    Dealer Quote

Dealer quote is over $800. Checked with my extended warranty carrier, and it's covered!

Interesting follow up. This just points out that

it would be really easy as a modern and high tech BMW ages it will easily nudge into the realm of where it would easily take an investment much larger than the book value of the car just to keep it working normally. Frightening thought if you have a really long term operating goal in mind. Eventually the cost of a few items such as your mirror could be more than a replacement car costs.
