So...is he REALLY retired?

JTP? I know he's not a Packer anymore but I'm sure you're following the story. What do you think?

    LOL

No one will know until a week or two before the first game! The Vikes are sweetening the deal to get him back - an additional $7 mil for the season, some guaranteed, some performance bonus.

My guess is he'll motivate himself for the $$ one more time... AFTER training camp of course!

You can already smell waffles. . .

Well, I was telling people yesterday that I wouldn't believe Favre was retired until the Vikes took their last snap of the season and he wasn't under center. Until then, I don't put anything past him at this point.

And sure enough, less than 24 hours later, you can already smell the aroma of waffles wafting from the west.

I believe he will come back. I believe he is setting things up so that 1) The Vikes beg him to come back, pay him more money, and he can ride in on his white horse to "save their season," to much adulation; and 2) he is laying the groundwork for an excuse in the case he has a bad year. Last year he set up the biceps tendon as his possible excuse, this year it's the ankle.

This guy has become so much a characature, it's beyond the realm of believability at this point.

    You don't like Rodgers?

I thought Rodgers played pretty well. Yeah, he's no Favruh, but still...

I think he's probably coming back. I think even if they didn't add the extra money he would have come back. ESPN jumped the gun on this one. He hasn't even told Childress!

Mark is just trying to get rid of Favre

He's hoping we would take him back so that the Vikes don't have to deal with him anymore. That's not any commentary on Rodgers (who played extremely well) it's all about Favre holding the Vikes hostage.

the Vikes want him to stay...

I think he's coming back, regardless of money. It looks like ESPN jumped the gun on the story, but either way, MN offered him a lot more money to come back. In my opinion, they're a legit contender with him playing (until they lose to Dallas in the playoffs, of course), or a 9-7 team without him and might squeak into the postseason.

    Sorta yes, sorta no.

I agree 100% that the Vikes want him back.

I agree 100% that he's probably coming back.

I agree 100% that the Vikes are a legit contender with him playing and a bubble team without him.

Not sure I can agree that ESPN jumped the gun on the story, though. While he now says he never sent the text message, there is a reason the Vikes are throwing an additional 7 Million at him. I think he DID send that text message, and I think the Vikes reacted to that message.

I think he sent the message largely to get the Vikes to ease up on their talk of him showing up at camp. He wants to show up, but after camp like he did last year. I don't know that he did this to try to get extra money, but he certainly isn't going to turn it down!

I think he also mentioned the ankle issue as a possible excuse in case he has a bad season.

    That, I believe...

I think they'll get to the NFC championship game and lose to Dallas. His last pass WON'T be an interception, which means he will finally be able to retire.

    What I've wanted all along. . .

Favre's little off-season game has really tarnished his name for many people. Which is really unfortunate. But for many years, he was the face of our franchise. All along, I have always said that I wanted him to announce BEFORE his final season that it was one more year and then done. That way, he could get the farewell tour that his career had earned him. It's really too bad that he played the Retirement Flip-Flop for so many years that most people either no longer believe him or simply don't care.

It will sure be nice when he IS retired and we can stop wasting so much energy on someone else's quarterback situation!

I still like the Brett Favre on the walls of my sports room. You know, the one wearing Green and Gold. Unfortunately, he decided to play wearing a girl color! I can't like THAT guy. :o)
