Like FredR and Cody have said, you do
NOT want to have your event here (Texas) on Labor Day.
I'm born and bred here, and quite honestly, I don't want to hear everybody bitchin and whinin about what a bad time they had because of the weather. You have to understand, a lot of people that THINK they know what hot is find out real quick that hot in Texas is a whole level above what they thought it would be. It can ruin an otherwise good time.
If you know anybody that came here for Oktoberfest (it was in Ft. Worth) back in 2007 ask them if they had a good time. All I remember were people complaining about he heat. And that was at the end of September.
Really might want to listen to us and think seriously about changing the date.

Always a nice breeze in D/FW?
I'm not sure what day you were here, but I can assure you (at least my observation the last 40 years here) that we do not always have a good breeze going on.
In fact, I just got in from spending 2+ hours mowing and I don't recall seeing one leaf on a tree move. It's dead still, just like it is at least 90% of the time.
And even when it is blowing, it's hot air.
So if you enjoy having someone blow a hot hair dryer in your face, then yea, you'll love it. lol

Too long of a drive. . .
hehe, okay, I'm a jerk! But it IS all of 1 1/2 hours from here!
I wasn't planning on going up there, but Buddy emailed me a couple days ago to mention that they were going to be there, and now I hear you will be there as well. Hmm. Give me some details here - if I were to make a day trip out of it, which day would be optimal and what could I expect to experience that day?
It appears day passes are $40?
I can't commit yet, but I'm willing to toss it around.

Last Sunday's fixit day in Houston it was 102.
When I got home from it @ 9PM it was still 96. Yesterday was the first day in 25 that Dallas was below 100. As I type its 94 here in the Big Thicket in the shade. If I was planning I would really think late Oct or early Nov. Or better hold it in the Spring. The problem is that you can't go anywhere to avoid the heat other than inside. This isn't like CA where you can jump in the car an within 1 hour be in the mountains or the beach where the temps are better. The board really needs to think about changing the date. IMHO

Some may think that maybe I'm a poor sport,
but the truth is I'm not so sure I'll even do Zfest when it comes here. As you say, there's really nothing you can do to escape the heat at the time of year we're talking about. No mountains or beaches, and even the lake water around here is probably 90 degrees. So even if the organizers put together a really nice schedule of events, the heat's likely to ruin half the fun.
I mean, I love the state and I'm not bashing it, I'm just bashing the weather. And the truth is, a lot of Z3'ers and Z4'ers are not exactly young chickens anymore, and most of us AARP'ers are the ones the heat affects the quickest.
And on the serious side, there really were a lot of out-of-towners complaining at O'fest. And I'd bet that 99% of them just stayed in their hotel rooms during the day time hours, for good reason. I really wouldn't want people to drive as far as some will for Z'fest and not have a good time.
I'm with you, I seriously think this Labor Day thing needs to be rethought. Besides, a lot of people I know do family things over Labor Day anyway, so just like HC, those that need to put family first will not be able to attend this either.
Just my .02
