anyone need German parts?
I've been moved from the "stans" to Germany (yeah, it's a tough life, but I guess someone has to do it...). I have a rental 325d (not bad, but it's no Z3) and am living in a hotel. I could get used to this "deployment" lifestyle. This sure beats being downrange...
Anyone need parts that they can't get in America? I'll trade you for football that I can't watch here! (grrrr). Go Cowboys!

I like that...they're named after me...
...and they played a great game. I didn't see the Cowboys debacle (it came on at 2:30 am and I don't have AFN in my offbase hotel). I think I'm glad I didn't see it, though. It sounds like they did everything in their power to lose. Stat-wise, Romo had a great game. Oh well. Lots of hype this year...that usually means lots of disappointment in the end...

spoiler report
The cowboys had too many mistakes to win. They had a huge mistake at the end of the 1st half and at the end of the game.
The commentor on the news this morning said: "The Cowboys are not fighting to win, they just expect to win and the other team should just roll over and give them the game."

maybe...I haven't really tried...
I have a car so I can drive to one if I can find one. How big is the controller? I can ask around and see what I can find. Email me a part number if you have it and I'll see what i can do. Shipping could be interesting depending on how big it is but if I can help you out, I'll do my best.

I wasn't sure if the yards are like in UK
And all the parts are pulled and cataloged. If you don't speak German, this task will probably be easier for me to do using a written translator and inquiring via the web than for you to hunt the yards.
The transmission controller is the same size as the engine computer (DME) and is next to the engine controller (they are stacked as a pair) in the engine bay (right side). The units are fairly light weight (under a pound?). A unit shipped from England ran about $10-15 pounds (handling and shipping). The Euro Z3 2.8 automatic models with the part I'm after were manufactured from 09/98 to 05/2000 (when the 2.8 model ended). The BMW part number is 24-60-1-423-974. The unit will have two stickers on top - one is a Bosch sticker with a Bosch part number, a generic BMW unit number (e.g., 1-423-000) and a software version (I'm looking for software version GS8.34.1) and the other sticker is somewhat of a printed label with BMW part numbers and VIN number. The part number will be truncated to "1-423-974".
The problem I'm having so far is that BMW Germany sells a lot of its excess US spec cars in Germany. I've found GS8.34.1 software, but it's for a US spec car. So, it's important to get the VIN to ensure that it's a Euro spec car.
Summary:
Part No.: 24-60-1-423-974
Software: GS8.34.1 (I'm looking only for the ".1" version)
Below is an attempt to link to eBay Germany showing a GS8.34.1 software unit but from a US spec car (VIN indicates US car and part number as well):
