Are you really so dumb, ignorant and uninformed?

Try reading up on the history of these countries over the last 50 years and you will find that you have been involved in funding, training supplying, manipulating, (or all of the above) the political situation to suit your own interests as you have seen fit. That the outcomes have not exactly been as you would wish is as much your own fault as anyone else.

It's just a very great sadness that it is the troops on the ground that have had to pay with their lives for so many bad political decisions.

    I guess so

I don't see "us" (the United States - I love it how you use "we" when talking about noble things like "our involvement" in the war, but when it comes to the messy stuff it's "you") as having such a clearly-defined impact on the lives and decisions of the countries in question.

So I guess I have to ask you a question: Do you really believe that had the US maintained a 100% hands-off policy in the middle east for the past 60 years, there would be no hatred for us now? And that the region wouldn't have destabilized to a point far beyond where it is? (that's two questions).

Your position isn't a surprising one: point a (limp) arrow at us with one hand, but keep the other one ready to beg for assistance and friendship at a moment's notice. Maybe it's a cultural thing... but if it were me, I'd be embarrassed. Maybe you're simply too dumb, ignorant and uninformed.

I seem to remember Australia being an ally...

...in the war on terror... hence, his use of "we".

I guess that is where our fundamental difference

lies. I do not see war as noble. The acts of comradeship and bravery performed by those directly involved certainly are but politicians have no claim to that.

The use of "you" and "we" is correct. Your backdoor involvement with these countries since the late '60s is all your own doing. We, through long-standing alliances and the "coalition of the willing", became involved with the second Gulf War episode and Afghanistan so I have no problem with the differentiation.

As for the rest of your post, having an opinion does not make it right. Just google something general like "Afghanistan last fifty years" and spend some time reading some of the documents, news reports and opinions expressed and you will see that everyone has an opinion. Some might even agree with yours. Of course, Google may well be a socialist puppet.

I think you would do well to

take some of your own medicine re: opinions.

And if you believe that I consider politicians' parts in war "noble," then you truly are dumb, ignorant, and uninformed.

I was trying to state it simply so that even you..

...might understand that as an ally brought into a hot war under what in hindsight appears to be false circumstances, one might understand how THEY might have a legitimate complaint with US, and how in the future one could extrapolate that they would be less likely to assist "the boy who cried wolf".

OK, so now I spelled it out pho-net-ick-ull-lee just for YOU!

    are you related to GregIT?

How stupid would Australia need to be to ignore 50 years of middle-east villainy (according to Oz) to be sucked into a war "under false pretenses?"

    50 years?

A lot of this goes back to the British 50 years or more before that. Follow the oil money.

But specifically speaking of the 2nd war with Iraq, the WMD issue or lack thereof is that to which I believe he refers... so we're talking as recently as 2003 and after.
