lack of power in upper rpms

I have an 87 BMW 325is. The car drives fine in the lower rpms and feels peppy, but when I floor it there is a lack of power in the upper rpms, like it doesn't have any extra power past about 4500rpms. A compression check shows good numbers, no smoke when flooring it, spark plugs look normal and the same across all cylinders. It has a new fuel filter. Original spark plug wires. Why is it lacking power? I've owned other e30s so i know what the motor should feel like.

fuel injectors might be a little clogged resulting in a lean burn at high rpm.

check your TPS switch under the intake manifold

if you feel power is being "cut off" so to speak it could be the switch is not sending the right signal of open throttle to the computer box. this usually happens at lower rpms but worth testing as it's quite simple to do yourself.

agreed. it's yet another simple check...
