You can also get that 1/2-inch effect if you > > >
cycle that Open Door remote button too quickly when opening all the locks and not just the driver door. It can have the effect of just holding the button down as far and the windows/sunroof open function.

For that reason...
I always press all 4 window buttons before I exit the car. Just to mnake sure all is closed. I once had my passenger side window slightly open after parking. I'd hate to find the car soaked after a rain shower due to an unnoticed and unintended slightly open window..
If you unlock your driver's door with the remote and unlock the otehr doors immediately after, you are activating the comfort opening feature which will open first the front windows and then the roof and rear windows. I'm thinking of having this feature disabled.

I use that feature maybe 2-3 times per year. > >
I consciously pause for a second or two between opening the driver's door and opening the other three to avoid that very thing.

I like to amaze my friend who has an Audi A4.>>
He must get just a few feet away before his remote unlocks his car. I, OTOH, can fire a command from at least 50 ft away to open all the openable orifices on the Bimmer.

Wait, there's more!
To impress Audi drivers, not only can I open all orifices (except hood and fuel door, of course) but I can also close it, saving myself the embarrasing question that were to follow after demonstrating the remote opening feature. But that option is disabled on US versions for -I guess- safety/legal reasons. But it can be activated, e.g. by using hack tools like EDIABAS/INPA...

Re: Is it my imagination or not...
As one of the other messages mentions - it is a fault with the software and relates to the timing between presses of the unlock button.
There was a bulletin on this (can not remember the number) but my car was fixed in 1999 by replacing the General module with a later version (HW and SW).
Cheers

Netherlands. US spec 2002 525iT
I bought my car in the US (Sacramento, CA) and had it shipped to the Netherlands. I found someone with a hack tool to change several US settings on my car that I did not like (odometer from miles to km, no gong and text warning when key in ignition and driver's door open, re-activating window comfort closing).
